KDesk Studio
1. Introduction
KDesk Studio (“the App”) is a screen and audio recording application for Windows, developed and published by VK Labs (“we”, “us”, or “our”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses and how it is handled when you use the App, including the version distributed through the Microsoft Store.
2. Important Summary
Local recordings and settings are stored on your device. If you choose live streaming, the App transmits your selected video and audio to the streaming platform. Microsoft Store handles subscription purchases. The App does not automatically send recordings or diagnostic reports to VK Labs.
3. Information the App Accesses
3.1 Screen and Display Content
- When you record your screen or a region of it, the App accesses your display output for the duration of the recording.
- Recordings are saved to a local folder on your device (by default, your Videos folder). You control what is recorded and when.
3.2 Microphone and System Audio
- You can choose to record your microphone and/or system audio (sound played by your computer).
- Microphone access requires your consent via the Windows privacy settings and the in-app controls.
3.3 Call Detection (Optional)
- If you enable the optional auto-record-on-calls feature, the App inspects Windows audio session metadata (process names such as WhatsApp, Teams, or Zoom) to detect when a call is active. This inspection happens entirely on your device; the App does not read call content or contacts and does not transmit anything.
3.4 Local Configurations
- Application settings (e.g., output folder, format preferences, Pro entitlement status) are stored in a local configuration file on your device.
3.5 Optional Live Streaming
- When you start a live stream, the selected screen content and audio are sent to the platform you configure, such as YouTube or Facebook. That platform handles your broadcast under its own privacy policy and account settings.
- Connecting YouTube uses Google authorization. The App stores connection credentials locally using Windows protection. Stream keys and other streaming credentials are also stored locally using Windows protection.
- You do not need a KDesk account for local recording. Online platforms and Microsoft Store may require their own accounts.
3.6 Local Diagnostics
The App keeps local diagnostic events, including recording progress and errors, to help investigate failures. Automatic remote crash reporting is not configured. If you choose to send files to support yourself, those files will be available to the recipient.
4. What We Do NOT Collect
- VK Labs does not automatically collect your recordings, screenshots, or audio files. Optional live streaming sends content to the platform you select.
- We do not create accounts or require registration to use the App.
- The App does not send usage analytics or local diagnostic events to VK Labs automatically.
- We do not sell or share personal information with advertisers.
- Call detection does not read your contacts, messages, or call logs. The App accesses recording files and configuration files for its recording, library, and export functions.
Recording content leaves your device when you start an online stream or move or share the files yourself.
5. Payments and Purchase Information
If you purchase KDesk Pro (a subscription), payment processing is handled entirely by Microsoft through the Microsoft Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Microsoft may share limited transaction data with us (such as entitlement status and purchase date) solely to verify your subscription and enable the Pro features. Microsoft’s privacy practices are governed by the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
6. How Data Is Stored and Secured
- Recordings are saved as ordinary files in a folder you control on your local drive.
- Production Pro entitlement is checked through Microsoft Store. Local settings and streaming connection credentials are stored on your device.
- No data is stored on our servers, because no data is transmitted to us.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
You are in full control of your recordings. You can delete any recording at any time from the App’s Library or from your file system. Uninstalling the App removes its program files; you can also delete the recordings folder and the App’s local configuration folder if you wish. Because we do not hold your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.
8. Children’s Privacy
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly process personal information of children. Screen/audio recordings taken by adults may incidentally contain children’s images or voices. Users control whether that content is recorded locally, streamed, or shared.
9. Legal Bases and Your Rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or India, you may have rights under applicable law (including the GDPR and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023), such as the right to access, correct, or erase personal data. Since the App’s data resides on your own device, these rights are exercised by you directly through the App and your operating system. You may contact us at any time with questions about this policy.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available at this URL, with the “Last updated” date at the top. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
